An ideal away
from it all Country Retreat

Surrounded by 12 ha garden and forest, half a moat and with a walled courtyard the Château offers exclusive privacy and tranquility, while only two kilometers from the town Tocane StApres with restaurants, cafés, supermarket, bakers, butchers, pharmacy, hair-dressers and a bank. There are prepared walks, canoes for touring the river Dronne, surrounding medieval cities and vineyards an hour's drive away.

With four double spacious bedrooms upstairs of which two are consecutive, a bedsofa for two in one of the bedrooms, an availabe baby cot and a bed and sparebed downstairs in the study it is possible to accomodate up to 12 adults/children and a baby. There are three bathrooms upstairs, one toilet downstairs and a shower and two toilets in an adjacent room that is accessible also from the courtyard and the garden.

The refectory table in the French kitchen with Scandinavian equipment is a given indoors center of activity. The sitting-room offers the possibility to be absorbed by a book, away from those absorbed by the TV in the study or by Ipads connected to the WiFi. When not in the garden of course.

An insight into the history

Originally a fortified farm from the 13th century and used in the Hundred Year War between England and France Beauséjour has been developed step by step to a private Château with modern facilities. 1609 a Chapel, which now is restaured, was added and in the '90s the Château was completely refurbished.

Attractive gardens

The garden is the obvious place to be during hot summer days, sunbathing privately, organizing a barbecue or just relaxing. There are two prepared dining places,, one in the garden and one in the courtyard, but there are also additional tables and chairs available.The garden is also the perfect place for a reception after a wedding or a drink before a festive dinner in the courtyard.

Large saltwater swimming pool

The 15 meter long, 4 meter wide and 1.5 meter deep swimming pool is the heart of the garden. Primarily used for swimming it is also a wonderful place for playing when the children can swim. When not used it can and should be covered. The cover can carry the weight of a six year old child.

The kitchen is well equipped with french doors leading out onto the terrace. Another fireplace with a log burning stove. A large antique refectory table with seating for 12. A Fridge freezer, microwave, four gas ring hob. oven, dishwasher and lots of cupboard space filled with crockery, glasses etc.

The Sitting Room

A large comfortable room with a beautiful working inglenook fireplace. Furnished with a sofa, chairs, CD/Hi fi. a selection of antique bookcases and occasional tables. With lovely stain glass windows looking out to the front of the Château de Beauséjour and also to the side.

Large hall with double doors facing out to the back garden and swimming pool. A carpeted sweeping oak staircase leading up to the bedrooms.

Master Bedroom

Beautiful chestnut panelled bedroom with dual aspect glass windows, looking out to the front and rear of the property. With large double bed and antique wardrobe. Door to en-suite bathroom, with large bath, overhead shower, wash hand basin, bidet and toilet.

Local interest

Riberac

Riberac is a traditional town and boasts the biggest market in the Dordogne. Held every Friday morning in the main square, you’ll find everything from wild strawberries and the freshest fish from the Ile d’Oleron to hand-made soaps and beautifully printed linens. Take your camera and you’ll get some fantastic shots. At just 15 minutes from home, you’ll find several large supermarkets here plus all the shops and services such as garages, pharmacy, gendarmerie and dentist.

Aubeterre

Aubeterre, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, this is an unmissable stop on your journey and just 30 minutes from Château de Beauséjour. With its picturesque square full of café tables under shady plane trees, a monolithic church cut into a cliff and even a beach on the banks of the river that winds along below, it is a real gem.

Perigueux

This vibrant medieval city is around 15 minutes from Château de Beauséjour. With little lanes of timber-framed shops, hidden squares with bars and restaurants and a huge array of shops, this is where to get your retail fix. The bustling markets on Wednesday and Saturday are an absolute must and a visit to the magnificent Cathedral de St. Front is highly recommended, particularly in the heat of the afternoon!

Brantôme

Known locally as the “Venice of the Périgord”, this ancient and historic town sits on a loop of the River Dronne. Visit the stunning Abbey which dates back to the 11th century, get tickets for one of the concerts that take place in the caves behind, or just take a seat in the sun and watch the world go by. There are several outstanding restaurants here including Le Moulin de Roc and the Fréres Charbonnel (our favourite). The town also offers fishing, canoeing, cycle hire. Visit the lively market on Fridays where you'll find local produce in abundance and occasionally you may pick up a seasonal bargain at one of the many stalls!

Village of Villars

The nearby village of Villars offers three attractions: The Château de Puyguilhem, Abbaye de Boschaud, Prehistoric caves at the Grotte de Villars

Bourdeilles

Just a little downstream from Brantôme, has a pretty 16th Century Renaissance château: built alongside the earlier 12th Century Fortress with its stunning tower, it has a bird’s eye view of the town. Visit Le Donjon restaurant for a leisurely lunch facing the château or in their flower filled courtyard under the shade of huge canvas sails.
